Volunteer producer donates TV documentary to help fundraising efforts for San Diego Oceans Foundation

Stephanie Sullivan, volunteer community TV producer for the Del Mar Television Foundation, recently donated her time and expertise for a 30-minute documentary featuring staff and volunteers from San Diego Oceans Foundation (SDOF), a nonprofit organization that promotes ocean stewardship.
On Sept. 19, SDOF held its California Coastal Cleanup Day at the harbor in San Diego. California Coastal Cleanup Day celebrated its 25th year. SDOF is also celebrating its 25th year (promoting ocean stewardship since 1984).
The TV program is called, “Caring for our Valuable Oceans” and captures many of the volunteers who help the community of San Diego by caring for and protecting the ocean.
Sullivan says, “My passion and hobby is to help others and provide community support to nonprofit organizations who are making the difference and doing wonderful things in the community”.
Sullivan volunteers her own time to produce TV programs, however, it is necessary to pay the videographers and editors for their hard work for the production. Del Mar Television Foundation offers internship programs for high school and college students and also offers the public a “hands-on” studio production class. Sullivan found her videographer, John Lemieux, as well as two Canyon Crest High School students, Francesca Carter and Dillon Stockham, who just recently started their own production company, Clear Glass Productions, through the Del Mar Television Foundation. Sullivan says that she could not do any production without the assistance of the videographers, editors and graphic artists.
Music and lyrics for the song, “Ocean Blue” was created by Don Swanson of “The Retro Rocketts Band.” Swanson donated his time and musical talents to benefit the San Diego Oceans Foundation. The song plays throughout the TV program. Pictures taken at the event were donated by: Event Master Photography and there are several featured in the program.
Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, son of Gene Roddenberry, creator of the Star Trek television and film series, also volunteered for the program. Roddenberry is a passionate advocate for the oceans and in an effort to share his appreciation of our oceans with others he founded the Roddenberry Dive Team (RDT) with executive director and dive master Greg Martin. RDT is about exploration, adventure and education. In the same way that Star Trek portrays a future where humanity has embraced diversity and reached into space in search of new ideas and life-forms, the RDT is a real world effort to share and preserve the wonder and diversity of our oceans and environment.
“The Roddenberry Dive Team takes the optimism inspired by my father’s philosophy and brings it to a very real and actionable place,” says Roddenberry.
